Florence's Duomo - Santa Maria del Fiori

The lovely agriturismo where we
stayed in Tuscany

What I'll never forget: coffee that looked like motor oil to me • being able to see the veins in the hands of Michelangelo's David • wandering around San Gimignano by myself souvenir shopping, buying wine, eating gelato and trying to avoid the rain • enjoying the scenery surrounding the agriturismo where we stayed • the hole in the ground bathroom at San Gimignano • getting together with the group for drinks and snacks and wearing the dress I bought in France • saying goodbye to our bus driver, Mathieu • feeling tired and overwhelmed by the crowds (and maybe even a little cranky) as we toured Florence

My favorite foods: pizza, gelato, peach bellini, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, limoncello, prosciutto

What is...

Agritourism - a style of vacation in which hospitality is offered on farms. Agritourism is often practiced in wine growing regions, as in Italy, France and Spain.

Limoncello - a lemon liqueur produced in the south of Italy. It is made from lemon rinds, alcohol, water, and sugar and is bright yellow in color, sweet and lemony.

Vernaccia di San Gimignano - the white wine grown and produced near the Italian hill town of San Gimignano in Tuscany. Wine has been produced in the area for hundreds of years. Since the Renaissance it has been considered one of Italy's finest white wines.
