Hotel: Domus Cavanis (2 nights)
Tour Highlights: tour of St. Mark's square, morning walking tour, free time

The magnificent St. Mark's Basilica
(Pictures don't do it justice!)

What I'll never forget: St. Mark's Basilica at twilight • thinking of my parents as music from Romeo and Juliet was played by musicians on the street • a Venetian pub crawl with Stephanie, Deborah, and Maegen (yummy!) • shopping for Murano jewelry • the feeling that Venice was the most unusual and beautiful place I'd ever been • a gondola ride on the Grand Canal • receiving a kiss from our gondolier • our guide, Elisabetta, pointing to the street and calling it "the toilet of the dogs" • visiting the Frari Church where one unbelievable piece of art is crammed next to another • realizing that traveling by foot is so much easier when there are no cars!• more memorable meals • the tiniest shower ever • relaxing outside at the hotel (with Deborah) in big, comfy chairs • a Vivaldi concert • the water rising in St. Mark's Square • Phil hangin' out with the girls

My favorite foods : pizza, prosecco, seafood, white wine, limoncello, Venetian cookies from the rest stop (pictured on the right)

Looking silly after being kissed by our gondolier

Upon arriving at
our hotel in Venice, Cheryl and I began checking out our accomodations. Somehow, we both ended up in the bathroom to inspect the bidet, which I mistakenly thought was a urinal. (Bidets are not common here in Texas.) Cheryl assured me it was, in fact, a bidet.

As we both peered down at it to get a better look, Cheryl turned it on. The water came shooting forecefully out of the nozzle just barely missing my face and mouth. We both laughed so hard we had tears in our eyes and even started annoying our neighbors from all the noise we were making.

For another fun story, check out (my tour buddy) Deborah's Venice page. You can find the story on the bottom right hand side of this page.

Mmmm...cookies!
